I love how my Superfuture‘s Superguide defines LA: it’s a stimulating cultural mash-up where surf bums, oscar winners, economic heavies and illegals all enjoy perfect weather and a skim double decaf mocha latte in artisinal coffee bars.
The life looks easier and brighter in this part of the World. Is it all fake and phony? Honestly, I do not care. This place has good vibes, it is sunny, inspiring and optimistic.. That’s all I need for a few days stopover! Now is the moment of Downtown LA with its shops, galleries, museums, coffee bars, creatives of all sorts and one hotel, Ace Hotel.
Ace is the hipsters paradise! Aesthetics and facilities of the hotel are perfectly blended into these impressive high rises from the 20ties and 30ties and the hotel has become the anchor tenant of the whole Downtown revival.
My room was Ace lesson about living in DTLA: big windows overlooking the car park with the bright sign of the Orpheum on the roof top of the next door building, a lot of Pendleton stuff, comfy bed and most important of all – an Ace x Rega LP1 turntable with a curated selection of vinyls. Excellent choice!
Ace has become a central point of this area. People come here for breakfast, for lunch, they come to party at the rooftop bar, or they go the Theatre at Ace Hotel for a concert.
It’s worth to have a walk around the area surrounding the hotel and enjoy the architecture, design and people who make this area of LA so special.
The true is that a visit to LA without going to Venice Beach or Santa Monica would not be complete. Have fun!
